Bobby Fischer World Champion for Political Reasons?
Bobby Fischer's winning the World Chess Crown was a win-win-win event: A win for some Soviet leaders who wanted to bring some kind of demoralization to the Soviet citizens, in order to facilitate their plans to dissolve the Soviet Union, and at the same time gain USA favor. A win for The United States that wanted, among other things, to divert American people attention, because from 1960 through 1970 American society was a convulsed one. A win for the chess community which could sell thousands of chess- related books, magazines, boards and pieces, software and computers all around the world. The chess players would get their share through book writng and a lot of "major" tournamnet sponsors. Nobody wanted to "defeat Bobby".
