According to this book, there is a man who can turn his head 180 degrees, just like an owl, because of his flexible joints! Students may be encouraged to search for their own weird facts when they read this book from the "Ripley's Believe It or Not" series. The format consists of many paragraphs of amazing facts plus side bars with more information. Some unusual information includes the fact that one man has had his body tattooed and changed to look like a lizard because he is so fond of them. One whole page devoted to him explains, and shows, that his tongue has been surgically altered to look forked, his eyebrows have had bumps added, and his teeth have been filed to resemble lizard teeth. Also included are photos of the world's tallest woman, who grew to be over eight feet tall, and a man from Canada that could pull two fire trucks weighing a total of sixteen tons. A slew of incredible photos adds to and supports the text. The number facts in this book could open up opportunities for teaching math lessons. It would also be a good supplement to science and social study lessons. Reviewer: Nancy Garhan Attebury
