Jack writes a letter to the Librarian because he needs help. His brother has been eaten by a book!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer

Jack is writing a letter to The Librarian because an evil book has devoured his brother. His bedroom door is locked, but he is frightened as he hears bumping sounds in the hall. Jack writes about Tyler finding a book in the doghouse entitled, "Chews Your Own Adventure" written by Dr. Voracious Tome. The book growled at Tyler and he threw it into his closet. Tyler disappears in the night and when Jack checks the closet, the book opens its big slobbery mouth and swallows Jack, also. In the meantime, Iris buys a book at a library sale. She should have been suspicious. The title was "Harry Potter, Volume Ate." This book eats Barry, her younger brother. Fortunately, Jack's letter has reached The Librarian. He sends The Specialist to the rescue. The three children appear briefly in Barry's room, before The Librarian and The Specialist fly off with Tyler and Jack, presumably headed for their home. The text is large and widely spaced in this easy-to-read book. The pictures are descriptive and disgusting, which will likely appeal to the intended audience. Includes a glossary, discussion questions, and writing prompts. Also includes addresses for websites with related games, puzzles and information. Part of the "Library of Doom" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
