About the Author

Elizabeth Bacon Custer was born on April 8, 1842, in Monroe, Michigan. Around 1862, when she graduated from boarding school as valedictorian, she met the handsome war hero George Armstrong Custer. She married Custer on February 9, 1864. She died in 1933, outliving her husband by 57 years, most of which was spent burnishing his public image.
