Campaigner Against Antisemitism: The Reverend James Parkes, 1896-1981 an Interpretative Study
Parkes, an Anglican priest who championed interfaith dialog between Christians and Jews, tried to warn the West of the real purpose of Hitler's "racial" policies. Richmond, who has been closely associated with Parkes's work for 20 years, concentrates on the remarkable work of a man who studied Judaism, was a socialist, founded the Council of Christians and Jews, and collected the books that began the million-volume Parkes Library, a major resource on Christian/Jewish relations. Parkes also managed to be slightly eccentric in an endearing way, a habit that apparently wore well with friends and better with detractors than one might expect on issues as volatile as his. That he was not welcome in all venues in his own time goes without saying. Chances are good he would not be well-received on the Big Hair Channel today, either. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
