Canteen Kate Vol. 1 No.1 June 1952 by St. John Publications with Matt Baker drawings. Canteen Kate served in the Marines (although she never really did any work) and was usually seen scheming and disguising herself in order to spend more time with her boyfriend, Al, who was enlisted.

Her stories were a combination of romance, slapstick humor, and crime solving.

This edition is a republishing of Canteen Kate Volume 1 Number 1 first published in June 1952 by St. John Publications.

About the Author

St. John Publications was an American publisher of magazines and comic books. During its short existence (1947–58), St. John's comic books established several industry firsts. Founded by Archer St. John (1904–55), the firm was located in Manhattan at 545 Fifth Avenue. After the St. John comic books came to an end in 1958, the company continued to publish its magazine line into the next decade. Flying Eagle Publications was a magazine affiliate of St. John Publications. Comic book imprints included Approved Comics, Blue Ribbon, and Jubilee Publications.
Matt Baker (Clarence Matthew Baker) (December 10, 1921 – August 11, 1959) was an American comic book artist who drew the costumed crimefighter Phantom Lady, among many other characters. Active in the 1940s and 1950s Golden Age of comic books, he is the first known African-American artist to find success in the comic-book industry. He also penciled an early form of graphic novel, St. John Publications' digest-sized "picture novel" It Rhymes with Lust (1950).
