In another "Discovering Art" board book that introduces the very young to works of art, the focus is cats. There are questions posed. Some are easy to answer, but others take more skill and/or caregivers and parents—no answers are provided. In some cases only part of a work may be displayed so the eyes are forced to focus on the cat(s). There are cats in paintings, cats on pottery, and cats depicted on a variety of mediums—paper, parchment, canvas, prints and panels. One can enjoy the pictures and on the closing pages learn the provenance of each. This is a book that is really useful to any individual interested in art, regardless of age. K-Gr 1—Ten board pages pair details from works of art in the Getty Museum with short, witty bits of commentary. In most cases, however, the entire work is not represented. Details from the paintings are isolated against a bright yellow background, which tends to make the colors look more subdued than they already are. Prominent numbers 1 to 10 seem to indicate a counting component where none exists. Instead, the numbers key the works of art to thumbnail representations of the entire works on the last page, which appear with their basic label information in tiny print.
