About the Author

F(rederick ) B(rotherton) Meyer (1847-1929) was born into a wealthy family in London. He attended and graduated from London University and received his theological training at Regent's Park (Baptist) College. He was pastor of congregations in Liverpool, York, Leicester and London. He was instrumental in launching the evangelistic campaigns of D. L. Moody, while at York. He opened Melbourne Hall in 1881, which became a center of evangelistic and social activity. He was a popular convention speaker in Great Britain and America. Arthur Clarke describes him as "a man of dignified appearance, compassionate heart, ceaseless industry, prolific pen, and graceful style. His devotional studies on biblical characters are still widely read."
