Come along on an adventure with bird friends Chirp, Squawk, and Tweet as they ride the rapids in search of the world’s largest waterfall. In their playhouse, they have become explorers paddling down a might river on a “boat” disguised as an ordinary tree branch. It is not very long until they run into some rapids, and their boat hits a sharp rock, leaving a hole in the bottom! Luckily, their dry pack (box) contains a few corks, which they quickly use to plug the leak. On their way again, the three friends find themselves extremely close to a waterfall. The sound of a hundred showers alerts them they could tumble, but Chirp’s quick thinking saves the day as they re-purpose the corks for flotation devices and wrap up their adventure, right back where they began in their playhouse. Bright, colorful, whimsical illustrations engage the reader in imagining they are on the adventure with Chirp, Squawk, and Tweet. Considerable white space on a couple of the pages seem unnecessary, as if something is missing, but readers can use their imagination to “fill” it, or perhaps even draw their own interpretation of events. A good choice for a preschool library, this title in the “Chirp” series begins the conversation about problem-solving with common objects and your imagination.
