About the Author

William Ralph Inge (1860-1954) was born in Yorkshire, England. An Anglican priest, he served as a professor of divinity at Cambridge and Dean of St Paul's Cathedral. Author of more than thirty-five books and an outspoken critic of the Catholic Church, he advocated “autonomous faith” instead of reliance on authority. His writings include Faith and Knowledge (1904) and The Philosophy of Plotinus (1918).
