About the Author

John Hassall, l868-l948 - Watercolorist, poster-designer and illustrator. Studied art at Antwerp and Paris under P. Van Havermaet and Bougereau. Hassall was an original and versatile designer of illustrations, contributing cartoons to many leading magazines, designing theatre posters, commercial posters for Messrs. David Allen and greeting cards, boys‘ books and nursery rhymes. His work is influenced by the flat colors and two-dimensional qualities of Japanese prints. He was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1901.

Charles Perrault, 12 January 1628 – 16 May 1703
Author of Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella is widely recognized as the father of the fairy tale.
