Like our senses of taste and smell, color helps us understand the world around us. The ability for young children to identify colors is considered an important concept and intellectual landmark. Children learn about colors during their preschool years. The connection in this book between the written words and the colors they represent may prove too weighty for a toddler, who may not grasp the relational concept of colors. To use this book to teach this basic concept is difficult because the animals presented are in their natural habitats and the variations of colors change outside the habitats. If the child associates the animal or thing with that color, this could lead to confusion because all snakes are not green and all fish are not yellow. Each page in this book features brightly colored photos of the animals in their natural habitats. The colors will fascinate young children and the binding will stand up to multiple reads.
