Comentario al Cantar de los Cantares

Human love, in its entire splendor, is the reflection of a greater love, the Love from where all other love comes. When the Song of Songs celebrates the wedding of King Solomon with a foreign woman, the Holy Spirit, the real author of the Sacred Scriptures, takes our spirit to another king, another wife, and other weddings. And if this same spirit helps us to read its verses, a royal wedding that has been celebrated for thousands of years, becomes an open window to eternal weddings. Solomon is Jesus Christ. The wife is the church, the Virgin Mary, the soul. The marriage bed is the Cross. The wine cellar is Calvary”everything is there, and everything happens today, for those who listen to the Word of God.

About the Author

José-Fernando Rey Ballesteros is a diocesan priest in Madrid and in a parish in the same dioceses. He is the author of other works on prayer including The Seven Words from the Cross, The Resurrection of the Lord, and Figures of the Virgin Mary in the Old Testament, and the translator for Edibesa of The Life of Saint Romualdo, Abbot, and he introduces us to the Spiritual meaning of The Song of Songs. It deals with a book written in the form of a prayer that wants to move the prayer and to establish, with Jesus Christ, the only relation that can fill the soul of a Christian—that of Love that fulfills all desire, and reveals the soul that God made poor so that he could enrich it.
