About the Author

Roslyn Schwartz is the author and illustrator of more than a dozen books for children, has worked on animated films, and is the recent winner of the Vicky Metcalf Award awarded by the Canadian Authors Association for a body of work. She lives in Montreal.

In the original editions, there was one illustration on each page, but in this bind up there are two images on each page which gives a more panoramic view of the quiet action. The illustrations are the same as the originals with their softly tinted coloured pencil drawings of the pink-nosed sisters adorning the small square illustrations.... The Mole Sisters are charming in their sweetness, puckish optimism and humourous sense of adventure. This title is a great value and comes at a time when worn library copies probably need replacement. It is also a good purchase for home libraries for reading at bedtime or at anytime a comforting and gentle story is needed. Highly Recommended.

If you have enjoyed any of the individual titles featuring this duo, the compilation of ten stories will be a welcome addition to a home or school collection. Among my favorites are "The Mole Sisters and the Blue Egg," "The Mole Sisters and the Fairy Ring" and "The Mole Sisters and the Moonlit Night." In the first of these stories the Mole Sisters are at it again. This time they are looking for something. What is it? They really do not have any idea, but they are sure, "We'll know it when we see it." They find a hollow tree, climb up and end up out on a limb in a bird's nest. The inside of the tree is surreal—a spiral staircase that looks like it goes forever. After sliding down and out of the tree the Mole Sisters find that something special. What they do with their find it truly innovative. It is a silly, but charming little story, and it is great for preschoolers and those just learning to read. In "The Mole Sisters and the Fairy Ring" those silly, loveable sisters discover a fairy ring (an empty circle surrounded by toad stools). As they sneak through the grass, they hope to catch sight of some little sprites, but no luck. Not the least bit deterred, the sisters decide that they will be fairies. With flowers on their heads and leaves around their waists, they dance up a storm. A slight collision has them seeing stars and they decide to go back being moles. The story is amusing and the illustrations are a delight. The last of my choices is "The Mole Sisters and the Moonlit Night." On a beautiful night with a full moon filling the sky, the Mole Sisters head out for a boat ride. They see a shooting star and make a wish. Poof! They are whisked to the moon and realize how much theyreally like home. Luckily, they spot another shooting star and wish themselves right back home. Real or fanciful, it is an adventure that kids can enjoy and marvel at what happens to this duo. The soft illustrations and simple text make this little story a pleasant bedtime read. 2004, Annick/Firefly, Ages 3 to 5.
