The seven projects presented in this volume of the "Cool Art" series will help children grasp the basic techniques of printmaking. At the beginning of the book, Hanson gives a brief history of printmaking and introduces readers to fundamental image and composition elements, providing visual examples of each. Four major types of printmaking are described—relief, intaglio, stenciling, and planographic. The projects—which include fun and messy activities like vegetable prints, fish prints, and a relief print using Styrofoam plates—can all be made with a few easily obtainable materials. Numbered project steps are shown on a white background for easier reading. Color photographs show some of the steps, as well as the finished products. Children are encouraged to adapt and modify projects to suit their own creative designs. The glossary at the end is brief, with most terms described within the text. A bibliography or resource page would help students who wish to further explore this art, but unfortunately the only resource listed is a link to the publisher's website, where one can search for updated links about this topic.
