Gregg Treinish shares some of his most challenging adventures. He begins with relating a family cross-country trip out West when he was a young teenager. They had traveled through Yellowstone National Park, visited Mount Rushmore, and hiked in the Grand Canyon. When they reached Nevada, Gregg’s dad took them horseback riding. The horses had not been well cared for or trained. They took off running and were out of control. Gregg managed to hang on. When he was sixteen years old, Gregg participated in a wilderness trek in Canada. As an adult, he went on an expedition to study wolverines in Mongolia. Some of his other adventures included a six-month hike along the Appalachian Trail, which is over two thousand miles long and passes through fourteen states. He started in Georgia and finished in Maine. The third section describes Gregg’s two-year trek across the Andes Mountains, hiking through Ecuador, Peru, and Chile. All the tales are written in first person. They reveal both life-threatening hardships and great joys along the way. Photographs taken during these adventures reveal some of the beauty and splendor of the places where Gregg traveled. Part of the “Kids Chapters” series.
