This biography, one in the series "Superstars of Pro Football," is an outstanding nonfiction text for older middle school students. DeMarcus Ware has been a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys since entering the NFL in 2005. The book is text rich, beginning with Ware's role in the 2009 Super Bowl against New Orleans, and then going back to recount Ware's beginnings as the son of a young single mother. Her father was a significant role model in his life, but as Ware graduates from high school he welcomes his biological father back into his life. Ware marries his high school sweetheart and after several tragedies, they finally become parents themselves. His story is one of hard work, family support and taking care of the talent to perform in the National Football League. The details and significant events in Ware's life and career are well developed and explained. There are fewer photos than in many books of this genre, making this one more appropriate for high school students interested in football and sports biography. There is a glossary of bolded vocabulary words and a section called "Cross-Currents" which gives detailed notes for important, general information that needs to be explained for readers. The timeline, the statistics and the index all make this an excellent research model for students. Middle and high school libraries will find this a high interest resource for their nonfiction offerings. Reviewer: Janis Flint-Ferguson
