About the Author

Diane Levin Rauchwerger (The Dinosaur on Hanukkah) is a children’s librarian as well as a synagogue librarian, where she runs a Jewish Mother Goose program using many of her own original songs and rhymes. She enjoys reading, hiking, quilting, photography, singing, and knitting. She and her husband have two grown children and live in Sunnyvale, CA.

A huge reptile munches matzah with a kindly family in Dinosaur on Passover. Diane Levin Rauchwerger weaves the Jewish rituals into her rhyming story of a dinosaur helping to prepare for seder. Little ones will appreciate the humor as the good-hearted but clumsy critter helps clean, grates horseradish and tries to open the door to Elijah, only to welcome the neighbor's dog instead. Jason Wolf's cartoons are as bright and peppy as the dinosaur. The illustrator is especially adept at conveying the family's surprise at all the havoc wreaked by their unexpected guest. But all's well that end's well, with calm restored as the rambunctious dinosaur curls up to sleep.

PreS-K-The friendly, oversize creature from Dinosaur on Hanukkah (Lerner, 2005) returns to celebrate Passover with a boy and his family. In silly, rhyming text, the reptile tries to help perform the holiday rituals: removing the forbidden foods, preparing the horseradish, singing the four questions, drinking the wine, retelling the story of the Exodus, eating matzah, searching for the afikomen, and welcoming the prophet Elijah. While his size, enthusiasm, and clumsiness wreak havoc on the family Seder, by the end of the story he is "curled up in a heap" fast asleep. The illustrations are bright and sophisticated, complementing the cheery mood of the text.
