Published and created with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, this activity/coloring storybook invites young readers to accompany Sarah and Andrew Young, (ages 9 and 11), and their parents, (who teach and practice law), on a trip from their home near Seattle to visit their grandma in North Carolina. On the way, the kids learn and reflect on their own Cherokee heritage, while visiting friends from other Native American groups around the country. Various activities, like word searches, mazes and crossword puzzles are interwoven with their experiences at a Hopi wedding, Great Lakes powwow, and other Native American events. The book does a good job of showing some of the diversity of Indian cultures and pointing out that these cultures are still vital and active. A glossary, bibliography and answers to puzzles and activities are included.
