Black Belt Karate Master Lyon shows students how to block or spar many of the basic kicks and punches that others may use when practicing with them or actually fighting them. The instructor notes that sparring requires just as much discipline, attention, and effort as learning to execute the basic karate movements themselves. Emphasis is placed on stance and footwork as Lyon shows how he would respond to different karate attacks. Combination responses are also discussed as important ways to spar and repel otherwise effective kicks and punches. Repetition of the demonstrated basic movements is critical so that students will execute them almost effortlessly when they're needed.
