Amid historical accounts of piracy on the high seas - of ancient buried treasure and devastating shipwrecks - virtually nothing claims as much intrigue as the destruction of the Whydah Galley, a vessel loaded with a reported four and a half tons of treasure, that went down off the coast of Cape Cod on April 26, 1717.
