The documentary series Classic U.S. Combat Aircraft of World War II draws on archival footage, interviews and other resources to chronicle the gradual development of various USAF aircraft models enlisted during the Second World War; each episode hones in on one particular model, with the series as a whole keeping a fixed eye on the gradual build in armaments and expanding scope of destruction over the course of the conflict. The episode P-38 Lightning explores the titular craft, also known as the Fork-Tailed Devil - a vehicle produced by Lockheed that began development in 1937.
