The time-worn tale of the most frequently revived of all ballets - Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky's 1877 +Swan Lake - is by now intrinsically familiar: how the young Prince Siegfried encounters enduring love on a birthday hunting trip when he catches a glimpse of a swan transforming itself into the maiden Odette, but is tricked by a sorcerer, who disguises his daughter Odile as the maiden and thus deliberately forces the prince and his intended to "leap" to death. In this version, mounted on stage by The Kirov Ballet and shot at the Maryinsky Theater in Russia in 1992, Galina Mezentseva portrays Odette and Odile and Konstantin Zaklinsky performs as Siegfried. Igor Talankin directs.
