Set just after WW II ends, this noirish murder mystery centers on a desperate death camp refugee who assumes the identity of a dead woman to insure that she gets passage to America. She ends up in San Francisco where she encounter the young son of the deceased. Fortunately, he doesn't know what his mother looked like for he has been raised by his wealthy aunt since he was a baby. Even more fortuitously is the fact that the aunt passed on just before she showed up and bequeathed her the entire fortune. It doesn't take long for the lucky refugee to fall madly in love with the estate's trustee. The two marry and with the boy move to the familial mansion on Telegraph Hill. Unfortunately, soon after they move in, bad things begin to happen and the boy is nearly killed several times. She too suffers an inordinate amount of accidents.
