These five volumes collectively provide an overview of current conditions and trends in education in Asia, with each covering specific thematic areas. The studies focus on progress within Asian education systems, as well as remaining challenges and key implications for policy. Volume 1 focuses on the broad role of education in national development in Asia, emphasizing trends, issues, and envisaged problems within education systems and in the relations between education and the environment. Volume 2 examines trends and issues in education management and efficiency across developing member countries, and suggests ways through which governments can strengthen the administration of their education system. Volume 3 is primarily concerned with formal kindergarten, school, technical/vocational, and higher education systems. Volume 4 analyzes various aspects of access and equity in developing member countries over the last 20 years, exploring patterns of access and equity by country groupings. And Volume 5 examines the concerns expressed among DMCs about education quality, reviews relevant research, focuses directly on teaching and learning, and suggests strategies that countries committed to quality improvement might use to raise school quality over the next decade.
