About the Author

About the Author
Irish novelist George Augustus Moore (1852 - 1933) wrote short stories and books in addition to being a poet, art critic and dramatist. He studied art in Paris during the 1870s and befriended many of leading French artists and writers.
He was one of the first English-language authors to absorb the wisdom of French realists, and was particularly influenced by Émile Zola. His work influenced James Joyce, according to biographer Richard Ellmann.
Moore's books are outside the mainstream of Irish and British literature and he is sometimes regarded as the first great modern Irish novelist.
