Short biographies tell of the work of ten women environmentalists. It credits Rachel Carson with beginning the movement. Jane Goodall's work with chimpanzees, Dai Qing's debates in China over the Three Gorges Dam, Fatima Jibrell's introduction of a Sun Fire Cooker in Somalia, and Sheila Watt-Cloutier's work to publicize the needs of the Inuit in the Arctic during global warming and poisoning of the ocean are all part of the movement. Vandana Shiva in India educates for biodiversity, Sharon Beder tackles the pollution of the waters around Australia and the manipulation of global corporations, and Marina Silva tries to save the rain forests of Brazil even though she is frequently ill from heavy metal poisoning from the drinking water. Severn Cullis-Suzuki has worked with the First Nations people of Canada and began the Environmental Children's Organization (ECO) which connects young people around the world.
