Teachers needing material for teaching young children about the seasons will find this book useful. The childlike illustrations are large enough to share in a group setting and clearly enhance the text. The first chapter describes a family outing to an apple orchard to pick and sample ripe apples. Chapter two explains how an apple tree grows from a tiny seed into a mature tree that blooms in spring, is pollinated by the bees and produces apples in the fall. The final chapter details how apples are used for cider, juice, pies, dumplings and applesauce. Additional interesting information is inserted on leaf shaped sections near the bottom of many of the pages. Also included are a glossary, index, bibliography and three websites. Certain to be a big hit, is the fairly simple recipe for "Upside-Down, Inside-Out Apple Crisp." There are five other books in this series titled "Fall's Here!" The review copy is in paperback form and currently the hardback is not available, so this may influence the decision to purchase for library use. Reviewer: Sylvia Firth
