All over the world, farms help to produce most of the food that humans consume. Some farms raise animals, while others grow fruits or vegetables, but all farms require a lot of work and tools to keep them running. This book is presented in a “You Read, I Read” format, which means that there is harder text on the first part of the page that is designed to be read by an adult caregiver. This text sets up the fledgling reader for success as it sets the scene for what will be discussed on the second, “I read” segment of the page. Visual clues and larger, bold text make new words and ideas easier for new readers to understand. Full color photographs permeate each page, making the text almost secondary in comparison. The text, however, provides a solid foundation of information for young children who may be learning about farming for the first time. The beginning of the book provides adult caregivers with instructions as to how the book is useful and how to go about reading it with a younger child. Even though it is a Level 1 beginning reader text, the tandem reading style helps increase the comprehension of the more complex information presented.
