About the Author

Explore how animal parents teach their babies to survive. On every page magnificent, color photographs of the animals will capture the attention of the readers. In one photo, a baby panda observes how the mother panda eats bamboo. A feature of this early chapter book is the opportunity for an adult or fluent reader to read the text on the left page of the layout (marked with “You Read”) and the early reader to read the right page (marked with “I Read”). The reading of the left page provides a brief opportunity to understand the context of the animal’s interactions, such as a mother chimpanzee folding a leaf to create a cup to drink water, and the text on right page provides additional information about the topic. At the end of each chapter is an extension activity called “Your Turn!” that involves thinking beyond what the text covers. For instance, describing how kittens learn to hunt or matching animals to their homes. Included are some publisher and consultant suggestions for parents and caregivers to support young readers.
