Mmmm...yummy chocolate! But how is it made? Where does it come from? A farmer plants the cocoa trees. Inside the hard pods that grow on the trees are cocoa beans. When the pods are ready, they are opened to reveal twenty to fifty cocoa beans. After the sun dries the beans, they are put into sacks, and taken to a chocolate factory. There the cocoa beans are cleaned and roasted. The shells are removed, and the beans are mashed, turning them into cocoa butter. Milk and sugar are added to the cocoa butter to make chocolate. The chocolate is poured into molds, cooled, and hardened. Then it is wrapped and taken to the stores to be sold. The author did a great job of using pictures and words in easy-to-read sentences, making this book a fun read. It will be an interesting book for children and parents to read together. The child can study the pictures, while the parent reads, or they can take turns reading and looking at the pictures: either way, it is a great way to learn something new.
