Mankowitz's name may not be recognizable, but his photography work certainly is. His pictures have been used for hundreds of rock music album and single covers, posters, and other promotional items. The British photographer has worked with musicians from the 1960s to today and has collected his most successful and best-known work in this anthology. This sumptuous, oversize book contains beautiful reproductions of Mankowitz's original photography along with brief notes detailing recollections of the time he worked with each artist. The remarks are dishy, funny, and sometimes revealing, giving music fans new insight into the artists they admire. The performers Mankowitz has worked with include huge names—the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Duran Duran—along with more obscure ones. Other artists are better known in English pop music than American but the quality and creativity of the photographer's work stand out no matter the subject.
