About the Author

Greg Farshtey is the author of over 40 novels and graphic novels, as well as the long-running BIONICLE(R) series and the animated BIONICLE: THE LEGEND REBORN film. He has worked as a journalist, copywriter, and designer and is currently employed as Editorial Director for the LEGO(R) Club. When he is not writing, Greg is usually playing with his baby daughter. He lives in Connecticut.

If you love LEGO and get a kick out of reading catalogues, this title will click with you. Sure, the character descriptions on each page read more like ad copy than narrative. Yet the four chapters offer close up photos, fun factoids, colorful LEGO boards as backdrops, and the occasional screen still. BAM! It’s the entire DC Comics constellation between two covers. KAPOW! The first chapter hails big league super heroes from the Justice League including Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash. Batman even shows up in regular bat black as well as Arctic and Scuba Batman. Also in the mix are lesser-known do-gooders like Nightwing (the first Robin) and Martian Manhunter (a telepathic, super-strength alien). The quirky corner of this Team Good grouping features pretender-heroes like Bizarro and Batzarro, whose good intentions rarely yield good results. And though lacking clever nicknames and alter egos, Lois Lane and Commissioner Gordon get props for making the most of their human abilities. SPLAT! The Villains chapter spews the wily toxins of major madmen like Lex Luthor, The Riddler, The Joker, and Two Face. And though their screen time may be small, the completely big, thoroughly bad ways of Giganta, Brainiac, Darkseid and their ilk are here, too. CRASH! The Vehicles chapter brings the meager narrative flow to a screeching halt. This section really is a nefarious plot (or rather, plotless) effort to sell LEGO kits. Sure, each vehicle does cool things, but the machines should’ve been incorporated into the previous chapters. BANG! The last section promotes popular locations like the Hall of Justice, the Bat Cave, and Metropolis. This input brings back some storyline context and narrative intrigue, but the non-LEGO images confuse the layout and the message. BIFF! The pull out “poster” is a sad afterthought, too. PHEW!
