About the Author

Chaya M. Burnstein (1923-2011) was an author and illustrator. Born in Queens, New York, she lived with her husband in Palestine and Israel, where they founded a kibbutz that still thrives today. There, she worked as a draftsperson and a carpenter, and worked to promote literacy within both the Jewish and Arab communities. After moving back to the United States, Burnstein began writing and illustrating books. Her beloved children’s stories chronicle many aspects of the Jewish life, including festivals, rituals, family, and faith.
