In the past 10 years, the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom has had reports of more than 6700 attempts to ban or restrict access to library and curricular materials throughout the nation. Judy Blume's Blubber, Brock Cole's The Goats, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor's "Alice" series, Lois Lowry's The Giver, and J. K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" books are among the 24 books featured in the first book. Among the 20 books featured in the second title are Marion Dane Bauer's Am I Blue? Coming Out from the Silence, Nancy Garden's Annie on My Mind, Robert Cormier's The Chocolate War, and Paul Zindel's The Pigman. Each entry includes a lengthy annotation; a discussion of some of the challenges to the title; relevant articles, awards and prizes; references to biographical information about the author; and sources recommending the novel. These slim books provide the necessary information to help teachers and librarians deal with censorship cases.
