About the Author

Denise Barnes, Founder of iKeep It Funky, is known as ‘fashionably geeky’ as she unapologetically and enthusiastically loves anything related to gadgetry and technology. Her career of developing devices, embedded and mobile platforms and mobile applications for the world’s largest software manufacturer surged her geeky passion and made her a trusted advisor for mobile technology. Besides being a techno-fashionista, Denise is a globe-trotter who enjoys reading, music, walking and fast cars.
In a recent interview, Denise shared how her passion for mobile technology began:
“My love for mobile technology resonated when I was preparing for a business trip to China. I had no time to learn the native language - Mandarin. I needed to get around the city in a timely manner for my customer meetings. Of course, I also wanted to do some site seeing. At this time I was working with quite a few independent software vendors in bringing to market some mobile Apps. I purchased and installed a mobile translation App. This software translated English to Mandarin in text. It also provided the translation in the native tongue and an associated sound using the local accent. It even showed pictures. I was able to get around to and from the hotel, the convention center where I was attending a mobile conference, and even communicate with a taxi driver.
I have always been one that was very technically inclined and loved technology, but I absolutely fell in love with mobile technology during that trip. I then led numerous mobile technology communities and assisted in the development of several mobile platforms and mobile devices. There is not any task I can think of where mobile technology cannot assist.”
