How We Got Swindled By Wall Street Godfathers, Greed & Financial Darwinism ~ The 30-War Against The American Dream
Political ~ Socio-Economic ~ Financial ~ Philosophical

Swindled is a political, socio-economic, financial, and philosophical treatise on the state of our dysfunctional society. It is a brutally candid expose of political self-interest and economic self-interest. And how our Democracy, founded on the primary principle "of the people, by the people and for the people" (Lincoln's Gettysburg Address) has become a political system of the lobbyists, by the ultra rich and for the ultra rich and their special interests.

This is not the book of a professor to impress scholarly colleagues, or the book of a businessman impressed by his own ego. But the book of a poet-philosopher thinker, who provided testimony to Senate Finance for TRA 86, and has specialized in succession planning and investment advice for over four decades. As a general agent in the insurance business and a NASD Member Firm broker-dealer, Henry Schoenberger was among the first financial planners in the U.S. From 45 years of tax related specialization he knows what so many do not know about tax law as well as how Congress has used our tax code for generations to conduct what it terms - Social Engineering. This book is also derived from Schoenberger's experience writing his first book, Invest for Success, which the Chairman of the Finance Dept. of Miami University called "a PhD dissertation published as a trade book" when he spoke to the Finance Honor students in 1990 at the request of an officer of the university. Swindled, in the final analysis, stems from the eclectic renaissance perspective of a political junkie as well as a life-long student of economics and finance, and human rights activist who has lived on the inside of what he has written about in this book.

"With keen intellect and searing wit, Henry Schoenberger's How We Got Swindled exposes the myriad of financial hijinks and colossal leadership failures that have turned the first decade of the new century into an economic disaster. Schoenberger not only identifies the causes, rationales and human failings that led to this mess; he provides some ready answers for how we must go about fixing it. This should be must-reading for every policy maker in Washington and every student of economics and Finance."

--David Satterfield, former Business Editor of the Miami Herald, 2 times Pulitzer Prize-winner

"Having been on the inside of one of the largest sub-prime mortgage lenders that failed, I can attest to the fact the Mr. Schoenberger has got it right. His insights and historical perspectives are on the money. We need to be focusing on how we effectively regulate the markets so that this type of crisis does not come back to bite us again."

About the Author

E. Henry Schoenberger graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in English and Economics. How We Got Swindled By Wall Street Godfathers, Greed & Financial Darwinism ~ The 30-War Against The American Dream is not the book of a professor to impress scholarly colleagues, or the book of a businessman impressed by his own ego. But the book of a thinker, with an ingrained concern for the public good.

Schoenberger has served in a variety of roles in the financial world. In 1968 he was among the earliest financial planners in the US. He provided testimony to Senate Finance for TRA 86, at the request of George Mitchell, Senate Majority leader. He has specialized in succession planning for individuals and closely-held companies, and investment advice for over four decades; as a general agent in the insurance and as an NASD Member Firm broker-dealer specializing in real estate private placements. He has been a communication consultant for national real estate sponsors; and concurrently was involved with investment banking and ran two venture capital companies - to save them.

In 1990, his first book - Invest for Success, How To Avoid Getting Ripped off by Real Estate Partnerships, the Stock Market and Diversification - was a critical success nationally. Because it armed readers with questions to ask to elicit answers no one volunteers. When invited by an officer of Miami University to speak about the book to honor finance students, the Chairman of the department said it was "the equivalent of a PhD thesis published as a trade book." Invest for Success is being carried again, at B&N online and in stock. And Schoenberger has authored articles in professional journals and mainstream publications.

From 45 years of tax related specialization; and from 25 years of teaching his continuing education courses to CPAs, Bank Trust Officers and Bank Trust Department Attorneys - he knows what so many do not know about tax law. He is intimately familiar with how Congress has used our tax code to conduct what it terms - Social Engineering - which too often is used for special interests.

He is a poet-philosopher and a pragmatic, rational idealist with a bifurcated eclectic point of view which encompasses human needs as well as economic realities, who has lived on the inside of what he has written about. And has been a life long student of economics as well as a political junkie dating from the day his father gave him an "I like Ike" button.

Schoenberger has been convinced from the end of the 80s that Financial Darwinism was a growing cancer on the soul of our economy and society. Some of his letters to Congress along with his outline on Financial Darwinism from his CPE courses are included in Swindled's appendixes. Because he knows that the root cause of our present economic crisis and societal malaise, must be identified and acknowledged before all the visible iceberg tips (on top of one gargantuan iceberg, i.e., root cause) can by addressed and remedied in favor of the public good. This is the gravitas and raison d'être for writing Swindled.
