About the Author

Alison Johansen is a freelance writer who lives in Virginia with her husband and two children. When their son was diagnosed with multiple food allergies as a baby, her family began their journey of managing what has proven to be an ever-changing and challenging area of pediatric health. HumFree the Bee was inspired by her son, whose joyful enthusiasm for playing, running, and being "super fast" while bravely handling the day-to-day ups and downs of having food allergies makes her so proud. Alison hopes this book will serve as a helpful foundation of food allergy awareness and education, starting with our most important members: our precious children.

After spending over thirteen years as a journalist in Washington, D.C., Alison founded Mothernova.com, a parenting website that offers feature stories, interviews, and tips about motherhood, food allergies, allergen-free cooking, pediatric sleep, and other topics that are close to her heart. As part of her outreach, Alison visits schools to tell HumFree's story and initiate a dialogue about food allergy awareness, inclusiveness, and education.

Alison is a member of Kids With Food Allergies, Food Allergy Research & Education, Loudoun Allergy Network, Freedible, Chrons and Colitis Foundation of America, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Society of Children's Books. Writers and Illustrators.
