Not exclusively for women, the process delineated in this book is for anyone in business or thinking of starting a business; the goal is to jump-start the reader into creating the business and the life she/he wants. Maddox, the founder of a company dedicated to helping female entrepreneurs, uses what she calls "innerpreneuring," focusing on oneself and creating a business from the inside out. Maddox tells readers to build their businesses and/or careers around personal values and to formulate personal definitions of success. A series of exercises and activities lead to concrete, action-oriented answers. Exploring life experiences, relationships, dreams, feelings, and self-image, readers arrive at their ultimate goal of success and a life/work balance. Because this process has a widespread appeal, all libraries should consider. [Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 1/95.]-Susan Awe, Jefferson Cty. P.L. System, Arvada, Col.
Vision combined with a strictly business mentality is what Maddox is promoting. Booted from the corporate security blanket some years back, she redeveloped her former career as CEO of a commercial lender to women's enterprises into creating a firm organized solely to incubate and nurture women entrepreneurs. First, one must identify self, resources, and beliefs; then she has the reader continue with a series of exercises about money, relationships, physicality, activities, and values. She ends with the formulation of an action plan. Vaguely New Age in design and character, the recommended activities, surprisingly, do reveal traits usually uncovered only by therapy.
