This hardback version of a comic book capitalizes on many of the graphic and textual elements of early comics, such as inserting fake advertisements (X-RAY Specs), excerpts from other superhero series, supersized onomatopoetic words (NNNRROOR!), bright colors, lots of action, and very creepy looking bad guys. Since this is the first installment in the "Graphic Sparks" series for Rockhead, we find out how nerdy Chip Stone is converted to a superheroof sorts. It's not clear that changing into a boy with a giant boulder for a head is going to do a lot for helping him win the favor of the girl he likes, Jennifer Jones, but it might help him deal with the bully who smashes Chip's peanut butter and jelly sandwich into his face. The outstanding question is why did the military pick Chip to be the subject of their experimental serum? As the closing page says, "To Be Continued!" There's not a lot of content here, but the fantasy of being tough enough to defeat school bullies and attract the attention of cute girls is certainly one that will resonate with some young readers. The Incredible Rockhead

Whenever Chip Stone's in danger, he's instantly transformed into a hulking beast with a giant head of rock. Although the power helps him overcome or, more accurately, smash apart his fears, the transformations aren't helping his social life.
