The capital of Central China's Hunan Province, Changsha is the center of the province in terms of its politics, economy, finance and commerce. It is located in the northeastern part of Hunan and covers an area of 11,819 sq km. The city governs five districts, three counties and one county-level city, and its population totaled 6.59 million at the end of 2008.
