Purpose: This book seeks to capitalize on the increased interest in both unintentional and intentional injuries as public policy issues and link that interest to the expanding knowledge base on their prevention and control in populations.
Audience: It is primarily targeted to students in public health training programs. However, since many public health workers lack formal training in basic public health principles and practice, this work will also be useful for personnel in injury prevention programs in a variety of public, private, and voluntary settings.
Features: In the early chapters the authors address the background and history of injury prevention efforts. Basic epidemiological concepts and current measures of mortality, morbidity, and disability are addressed in subsequent chapters with an equal emphasis on intentional and unintentional injuries.
