About the Author

Jalil Roshandel is Associate Professor and Director of Security Studies program at the Department of Political Science, East Carolina University. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science at the Universitè Toulouse I Science Sociales, France, and earned a Certificate of Achievement in Peace Research from the International University in Oslo, Norway. He was the deputy dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science at the University of Tehran in Iran through 1994. Since 1997 he has been a guest researcher and/or professor at many of the world's leading universities and research institutions including the Middle East Technical University in Turkey; Stanford University Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC), the University of California, Los Angeles; and Duke University. Roshandel has written several books (in Farsi) and numerous journal articles and book chapters on Middle East in general and Iranian foreign and security policy in particular. His most recent book chapter "The Nuclear Controversy in the Context of Iran's Evolving Defence Strategy" was published in Europe and Iran: Perspectives on Non-Proliferation (2005). Sharon Chadha has written (and co-written) for various publications including RUSI Journal, the publication of the Royal United Services Institute, the world's oldest security and defense think tank in London; RFE/RL Newsline, a publication produced by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, FrontPageMagazine.com and the Middle East Quarterly.
