About the Author

Marty McKnight is a freelance writer from St. Paul, Minnesota. He has written several chapter books for young readers.
Chris Jones is a Canadian based children’s illustrator. He enjoys telling stories visually, and his colorful style focuses on humor and expressiveness. Chris, graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD), has worked as both a graphic designer and an illustrator. His illustrations appear in several magazines and educational publications, and he also has numerous creator owned graphic novels and children’s books to his credit. Chris is a member and volunteer with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Chris is inspired by good music, good books, long walks, and generous amounts of coffee.

Jim Nasium is a young boy who has a goal to improve his football playing skills for the Buffalos. Jim has not had the best luck on the football field. With his friend Milo by his side, Jim was determined to make this season different. When Jim got his new football jersey with the number zero on it, Bobby, the star quarterback, and his friend Tommy did not waste any time in making fun of Jim for his jersey number relating it to his lack of football skills. When Coach Pittman asked who wanted to be backup quarterback, Jim saw that as his chance. On the field as the backup quarterback for the first time, Jim was tackled and lost some confidence. Jim’s mom and Coach Pittman kept telling him good effort but Jim really wanted to improve. Milo helped him to practice and prepare for the big game against the Gators. When Bobby got injured, Jim had the chance to play backup. A fumble recovery resulted in a touchdown; and after a few more plays, the Buffalos won. Jim learned important lessons in teamwork and perseverance. This title in the “Jim Nasium” series would be a great read for elementary students, helping them learn about not giving up on a goal.
