This is a high interest, low-level book that is part of the "Astonishing Headline" series. The introduction gives a short preview of what each chapter is about. The author begins each chapter with two pages entitled "DataFile" that contains a "Time Line," "Key Terms," and a "Did You Know?" section. This beginning provides helpful information at the readers' fingertips because references are right there for easier understanding. The chapters covered are: "Charles Lindbergh, Jr. Kidnapped," "Abducted by Aliens," "Students Storm U.S. Embassy," "Terry Anderson Held Hostage," and "Elizabeth Smart Taken." Each chapter is short, to the point, and offers interesting facts that are written in a reader-friendly way. The topics covered will most likely entice the reader to research for further information. This book provides an excellent approach for interesting children in nonfiction reading. Excellent illustrations are provided throughout the chapters, which are a perfect length for the reluctant reader. Teachers will find this series high quality reading for the classroom. The author also includes a mini-book review about "The Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping" that provides an excellent sample for students to use to write book reviews of other chapters.
