Overview

It is Little Rabbit’s birthday and his family surprises him with wrapped presents and a special trip to Rabbit World Theme Park.
Mama Rabbit packs a special birthday picnic and the family sets off for the amusement park with Little Rabbit and his red balloon leading the way. Little Rabbit is excited by the noise, color, and crowded activity of the park. He insists he is a big rabbit now and ignores his parents’ warnings to stay close. But when he suddenly finds himself all alone, he doesn’t feel quite so grown up anymore.

Little Rabbit was celebrating his birthday and one of his presents was tickets to Rabbit World, a wonderful amusement park. The only problem was that his mother kept telling him he was too little to go on all the most interesting rides. It was just too annoying for a big rabbit like himself to be treated like a baby, he thought. So he paid little attention to where his mama was until he found that he had lost her. Suddenly, Little Rabbit felt little again and afraid. With simple language that every little person will understand and can identify with, the author tells that familiar story of a lost child. He also reminds us not too be in too much of a hurry to be a "big rabbit." Harry Horse's illustrations delight the eye with their detail, and several double-page spreads could keep the reader occupied for some time, exploring his fascinating rabbit world. Finally, after becoming bored watching his older siblings ride the Big Hopper roller coaster that he's too small for, he wanders off to the bouncy castle and is having fun until he realizes that his mother is nowhere in sight. Suddenly, feeling "as small as he really was," he tries to find her. He's on the verge of panic, when the balloon helps to reunite them, and the whole family celebrates with a big birthday picnic, complete with cake. Little Rabbit, with his tiny blue suit and big red balloon, is an endearing figure who will win the sympathy of many young listeners who feel really big one minute and small the next.
