About the Author

Linda Masterson has been helping people learn to peacefully coexist with bears since she joined the Colorado Division of Wildlife's Bear Aware Team in 2001. Her award-winning work has appeared in the New York Times Sunday Magazine, Animal Kingdom, Ranger Rick, and many others. After a couple of decades as a creative director at Chicago advertising agencies, she moved to Colorado, and quickly learned that some of her most interesting new neighbors were big and furry. She's an experienced outdoorswoman, and has hiked in more than a hundred national parks and forests in the U.S. and Canada.
Scientific Advisor: Bear biologist Tom Beck is an internationally recognized, highly respected expert; U.S.A. Today refers to him as "One of America's leading authorities on black bears." In his twenty-five years with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Beck authored many scientific publications and statewide management plans, and conducted widely cited field research studies that advanced our understanding of bears. He's an avid outdoorsman, river runner, hiker, camper, fisherman and hunter, and has recently taken up organic farming. He served as both scientific and real-world advisor on Living with Bears.

What People are Saying About This

Ted Williams

"If you live in bear country (and, unless you're an inner-city resident, you probably do), you owe it to bears to read this smart, useful and long-overdue book. Don't let them die because of your or your neighbors' mistakes." --Ted Williams, Editor-at-Large, Audubon, and Conservation Editor, Fly Rod & Reel

Karen Noyce

"A comprehensive primer that is useful for professionals and the public alike. I found the book highly readable, clear, easy to use and quite complete. Masterson strikes a good balance between information and entertainment, producing a book I suspect biologists, wildlife managers and agency personnel will turn to more than they might at first think." --Karen Noyce, Vice President for Americas, IBA; Research Biologist, Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources

Eve Herrero

"Living with Bears is urgently recommended by the thousands of 'problem' (victimized) bears that needlessly die each year in North America. This insightful, well researched and witty book will guide and inspire humans to live in greater harmony with bears." Eve Herrero, author of Bear Attacks: Their Causes and Avoidance, and Past President of the International Association for Bear Research and Management (IBA)
