About the Author

The author was reared in an Old Order Mennonite family, and whose father became a member of the Church soon after he was married. Her mother never made the commitment to join the Mennonite church. Essentially it was a Mennonite home dominated by that philosophy and spirituality. The author believes that she was richly nurtured by both worlds. Her mother linked the children to the larger world outside of the Mennonite community while her father was steadfast in teaching his faith by example. In a marriage such as this both husband and wife must honor and respect one another's thoughts and actions. It was a good solid home where the family members were bound by love, and grounded by unity for survival in a farming community after the Great Depression and at the onset of World War II. This a novel inspired by people and various life stories within the Mennonite community.
