In this title from the parent series readers are offered a look at the Mexican immigrants who have become part of the fabric of America. Throughout the telling of the story of Mexican men, women, and children who have either recently immigrated to the United States or whose family roots are deeply dug into the nation's history, writer DePietro does an excellent job of bringing these stories to life. The author does a particularly effective job of giving his readers a feel for the reasons why Mexican people come to United States. Perhaps the most powerful portion of this fine social-history are the pages dedicated to the utterly impoverished Mexican families who literally live in garbage dumps and who come to the United States to escape a life that most people would see as unlivable. In addition, DePietro describes the contributions and hazards that Mexican immigrant's face not only when they attempt to enter the United States but also once they are residents. This is a fine book and one that tells a story of a brave people who for various reasons come to the United States to establish a new life. Reviewer: Greg M. Romaneck
