Social scientists who specialize in migration and the labor market in Europe came together as a research network during 1994-95 under the European Union's COST (A2) Migration initiative, and here present their findings. They examine issues of discrimination and exclusion in the labor market in western Europe in relation both to settled ethnic minority communities, whose existence results from a previous generation of migrants, including their children who were born and education in the host country; and the new migrants who continue to enter despite high levels of unemployment in the receiving countries.
